About This Opportunity 

The primary role of this position is to provide high level financial management and administrative support and advice to the Centre Director and the Chief Operating Officer in managing the financial and administrative functions of the Centre.

Key Responsibilities include:


Financial Management

  • In consultation with the Centre Director and Chief Operating Officer develop the annual Centre budget and quarterly reforecasts, including allocation of funds to projects for Chief Investigators at UQ and four other University nodes.

  • Formulate, monitor and review the annual budget and forecasting process, including management of the Centre forecast workbook, in order to meet School, Faculty, University and the Australian Research Council reporting requirements.

  • Prepare and analyse monthly financial expenditure statements and reports, investigate inconsistencies and budget variances and recommend corrective action where appropriate.

  • Liaise with School finance to facilitate continuous improvement in the budgeting, forecasting, reporting, transaction recording and analytical capabilities of the Centre finance team.

  • Support Node Administrators at the four Centre nodes to prepare quarterly reporting against annual forecasts for node activities.

  • Assist with grant management including internal and external reporting obligations.

  • Act as Centre financial delegate for processing of payments in the UQ finance system ($20K financial delegation).


Administrative Management

  • Oversee the collection of information for Centre reporting to the Australian Research Council for inclusion in the annual report and the Centre Outputs and Detailed Income and Expenditure report (CODIE).

  • Provide advice and assistance to the UQ Node research higher degree students in conjunction with the School Postgraduate Administrative Officer.

  • Assist the Chief Operating Officer with contract management and with intellectual property matters.

  • Ensure all business support functions of the centre are efficient and effective and meet compliance with the Australian Research Council and UQ requirements.

This is a part time (60% FTE), fixed-term position until 30 June 2025.

At HEW level 7, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range of $96,649.64 - $105,244.58, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $113,080.08 -  $123,136.16 annually.  As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.


About You  

  • Qualifications and training equivalent to an undergraduate degree in business administration, accounting or related field, with at least four years extensive research management experience (preferably in the tertiary education or research sectors); or an extensive research management experience and other relevant education/training.

  • Demonstrated experience in setting, monitoring and maintaining budgets, including providing reports to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge and experience in the use of large and complex financial management systems and other information software for reporting purposes e.g. the Microsoft suite of products.

  • A commitment to delivering a high level of customer service to internal and external clients.

  • High level interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated by the ability to liaise effectively with senior people internally and external to the University, colleagues and also students.

  • Knowledge of or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of contract management and intellectual property management

  • Ability to prioritise own workload, work independently and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work effectively within a team and proactively liaise across a multi-institutional research centre

  • Experience working in a research centre or a multi-institutional organisation.
