About the Role: 

The School of Information Technology is seeking expressions of interest for casual academic teaching staff for 2024. The School offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in a number of disciplines including: Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Data Analytics, Databases, Games Development, Internet of Things (IoT) IT professional skills, Mathematics, Mobile and Apps, Networking, Software Engineering & Virtual and Augmented Reality, at our Waurn Ponds Geelong, Burwood Melbourne and Cloud campuses.

To be successful, you’ll have:

Unit specific skills and knowledge, such as programming, web development, dev-ops, cloud technologies and entrepreneurship.
• Successful candidates will be assessed to ensure qualifications meet Standard 3.2.3 of the Higher Education Standards Framework.
- For teaching Masters’ degree programs, a doctorate degree and professional experience are required.
- For teaching Bachelor degree programs, an Honours or Masters degree is required. Those with extensive industry experience and tertiary teaching experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues.

Desired criteria:
• An excellent record of scholarly learning and teaching in undergraduate and/or postgraduate programs.
• Demonstrated capacity and passion for leadership in teaching.
• Online/eLearning and project supervision experience.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• Enhance student’s skills, knowledge and understanding through the efficient and timely preparation and delivery of learning activities such as lectures, tutorials, demonstrations and/or workshops as advised by the unit chair.
• Engage students in intellectual inquiry appropriate to the level of the course of study and unit being taught.
• Provide students with timely access to the information and support needed to complete their work for the unit/s.
• Mark assessment items according to criteria defined by the unit chair and provide constructive feedback to students on time.
• Work closely and collaboratively with the unit chair and other teaching staff to ensure a supportive and positive learning environment for all students.
• Be familiar with and follow relevant policies and procedures.
• Ensure a safe working environment for self and others.
• Develop and deliver a rigorous and engaging learning experience for students through the delivery of seminars, peer learning activities and supported online learning.
• Work with program coordinators as applicable on innovative curriculum design and demonstrate a scholarly approach to learning and teaching and incorporating innovations in online and blended delivery as appropriate.
• Perform associated administrative functions effectively and efficiently including preparation, printing, uploading of results and feedback.
• Contribute to building relationships within the team and university, including through appropriate and timely communication.
• Maintaining quality standards in teaching/learning programs.
• Implementing and modelling high standards of work performance.
• Developing and maintaining effective relationships with co-teachers, students, and colleagues.

  • The role requires the incumbent to apply for and maintain a Working with Children Check.
