The School of Social Sciences is currently seeking an experienced scholar and teacher of Social Work to join its team. As the Lecturer – EF you will successfully drive educational excellence within the university’s teaching and learning communities.

This is a 2 year Convertible Tenure Track Level B position.

In this position you will contribute to the School’s Social Work (Hons.) and Social Sciences teaching programs, including undergraduate and postgraduate coursework.

The level on appointment will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualification and experience.

The role of EF Lecturer reports to the Head of School and has nil direct reports. 

Accountabilities

Specific accountabilities for this role include (but are not limited to):

  • Demonstrate and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning;
  • Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements and support student postgraduate and undergraduate courses in line with UNSW policy;
  • Design and develop learning activities and resources, and assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments
  • Initiate the development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning with the support of more senior academics;
  • Support learning progression with students as individuals (through such activities as one-to-one consultation) and as a cohort (through general course related advice) to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes for students;
  • Manage course administration as Course Authority, including academic quality assurance; 

About you

Specific skills and experience required in this role include (but are not limited to):

  • Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Work.
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant area of study from a recognised institution and/or professional expertise or significant experience in social work practice, policy or a related field;
  • At least five years professional practice experience as either a social worker, or in social and public policy or related fields and a capacity to apply that experience to university teaching context.
  • The capacity to publish research in a practice related area;
  • Ability to undertake supervision of honours and/or postgraduate research students, and a willingness to undertake postgraduate supervision;
  • Demonstrated ability to teach into select social work courses at the undergraduate level including Field Education and internship courses
