At a glance

Scholarship recipients will receive a one off payment of $5,000 to support general living costs during their study. Students may apply if they are already receiving an HDR scholarship/stipend.


Eligibility guidelines

To be eligible for the scholarship you must:

  • be currently enrolled into a Masters by Research or Doctor of Philosophy;
  • have received Confirmation of Candidature;
  • be conducting research within one or  more of ECU's Research Priority Areas -  https://www.ecu.edu.au/research/research-themes-and-priority-areas
  • be conducting research within one of the following disciplines:
    • Education:
      • Digital communications
      • Initiatives that support children in high needs communities with their early learning, ongoing education and transition to sustainable employment
      • Education in sustainability
    • Governance and human rights: 
      • Governance that addresses human rights, labour rights, environmental initiatives, anti-corruption and the fight against slavery in supply chains
      • Sustainable supplier management
    • Environment:
    • Eco manufacturing: 
      • Ecu Manufacturing Centre and Product Stewardship
    • Cyber Security
    • Engineering of digital communications
  • be supported by supervisors with strong research and/or supervision track record, assessed relative to opportunity (i.e. at World-Class or on the trajectory to World-Class).

Priority Scholarships

The University values diversity in the HDR student cohort, and dependent on the availability of scholarships, may make awards to priority groups of students such as, but not limited to, those who identify as having a disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, or low SES applicants. The University is committed to reducing inequality in academia through equal opportunity and professional development, and may prioritise scholarships to applicants based on their supervision panel (i.e. an ECR nominated as principal or co-principal supervisor).

Assessment

  • Applications will undergo a preliminary review within Student Administration and relevant School to determine eligibility.
  • All applications will be assessed by the School Scholarship Review Committee.
  • The School Executive has the authority to seek further evidence from such persons it deems necessary to evaluate the application.

Awarding of scholarships

Eligible scholarship applications will be ranked by the School Scholarship Review Committee and presented to the University Scholarship Committee. Scholarships are confirmed by the University Scholarship Committee. Not all applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be offered a scholarship. The Order of Merit will not be made public and applicants will not be informed of their rank. Individual ranking and specific details about the Order of Merit will only be made available to the selection committees. Applicants have the right of appeal against process issues, but not against committee decisions or assessor ratings and comments.
