The Director, Strategic Partnerships leads engagement with global defence related industry partners and mobilises the collaborative efforts of experts across Monash University's research, education and innovation ecosystem to deliver impactful partnerships at scale. 

With defence-relevant expertise, the Director, Strategic Partnerships focuses on business development aligned to the institutional interests of the University as a whole. This includes a ‘concierge’ service to strategic, defence related, partners, making it easier to access effective and efficient institutional engagement with Monash.

The Director, Strategic Partnerships acts as an opportunity generator, ensuring we derive optimal impact from defence related partnerships while maintaining line of sight across all activity with the partner to ensure their needs are met. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of major defence related partnerships at a local, national and international level to strengthen Monash University’s position as a renowned partner in this space
  • Contribute to an enterprise-wide business development strategy, strategically evaluating priorities and determining business requirements to achieve the University's strategic objectives
  • Act as the partnership leader for major defence related opportunities
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships and networks, both within and outside of Monash to facilitate effective partnership delivery
  • Map industry needs across the Monash research and education substrate to identify and qualify opportunities for engagement, driving innovation and translation into end-use
  • Develop business cases that are based on sound commercial and regulatory rationale and prepare internal review and briefing documents with detailed analysis of opportunities
  • Work collaboratively to mobilise Monash capabilities, resources, platforms and convening power to deliver partnerships and revenue impact at scale

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

Education/Qualifications:

  • Relevant postgraduate qualification or extensive senior management experience within a complex management environment

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive experience in the national security and defence industry
  • Proven track record in business development and commercial relationship management, with established networks and relationships
  • Extensive experience in shaping multidisciplinary research programs of scale - influencing internal and external stakeholders in complex environments
  • Leadership experience and people management skills
  • Exceptional analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Outstanding planning and organisational skills
  • Ability to produce clear, well-defined reports and documents
  • Candidates will be required to hold an existing Australian Government Security Clearance, or be willing to obtain a Negative Vetting 1 clearance for this role
