Curtin Institute for Energy Transition

The cross-faculty Institute for Energy Transition (IET) was established in 2022 and is Curtin University’s strategic response to the Net Zero Challenge, the Energy Transition and Trilemma. The IET will be Curtin’s sole energy research focal point; a shared platform for ongoing and planned multidisciplinary research across the University, enabling and coordinating research, along with a distinguished teaching programme and an extensive network of energy researchers harnessing industry partners.

The Director of Institute for Energy Transition

The Director of the Institute for Energy Transition is responsible for leading and coordinating Curtin University’s activities in this field, providing a focal point around which internal synergies and external investment will grow.

Curtin University is seeking a world leading, inspiring and credible leader who will play a pivotal role building on the existing successes and strengths of Curtin University to position the university as a global leader in this field. The Director will provide leadership of the interdisciplinary challenge area across the university, continue to strengthen the connections with the various Schools and Faculties, as well representing the university externally to build the university’s reputation in leading energy transition with industry, government, and policy makers.

The Director will be based within the WA School of Mines: Minerals, Energy, and Chemical Engineering, and will be required to work collaboratively across the schools within a governance structure overseen by the Research Office and Faculties.


Key Requirements
  • Doctorate qualification with extensive relevant experience; or extensive management experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Internationally renowned expertise in an underpinning discipline that supports Energy Transition.
  • Demonstrated track record of promoting relevant interdisciplinary research and research leadership.
  • Detailed knowledge of the energy industry sector and related high-level Government policy.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build successful collaborative networks.
  • Demonstrated well-developed organisational skills with proven ability to successfully lead a portfolio of diverse projects.
  • Demonstrated high level verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience working within a higher education environment, as well as working experience with energy sector industry and governments is desirable.
