About the Role

The Flinders Clinical Trials (FCT) platform aims to facilitate and enhance clinical research capacity of the University and its partners to conduct high quality pragmatic clinical trials, leveraging existing strengths. FCT is comprised of an experienced team of multi-disciplinary specialists and collaborators to help university and partner researchers refine proposals, collaborate, upscale, budget and deliver unique industry- and investigator-led clinical trials and clinical research projects.

The Director will drive the strategic planning and successful delivery of grant applications in large-scale clinical and health services research for Flinders University, clinical trials/health data science research, and is embedded in the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) in the College of Medicine and Public Health (CMPH). The position will work with the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research), Research Development and Support office, Director  of FHMRI and work in collaboration with other university staff to deliver support, education and improvements in the efficiency, quality, and impact of clinical and health systems research across Flinders University and South Australia, through the development of a broad range of research skills and efficiency measures.

The Director will provide direct management over the FCT team and ensure the effective implementation of the University’s research policies and strategies.


About You

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Completion of a medical clinical qualification (eg, MD, MBBS) & a PhD in Medicine or related field

  • Clinical trials relevant accreditation at a national or international level.

  • Evidence of significant achievement in clinical research with a demonstrated record of high calibre research outputs and success in gaining and delivering competitive research grants and/or contracts.

  • Demonstrated leadership and organisational skills, including the ability to lead, develop and support others in a demanding and changing clinical research environment.

  • Proven understanding of research activities including the development and management of research partnerships, research projects, research teams, resources and research budgets in an area relevant to the discipline and demonstrated experience of research staff and student supervision and completion.

  • Clear understanding and commitment to social accountability relevant to health and medical research.

  • Proven ability to undertake research engagement with relevant partners that may include industry, government and/or community organisations.
