About you

You are a leading and internationally recognised expert in Interactive and Virtual Environments with established significant and productive research collaborations both nationally and internationally. You will have significant experience either working within private industry or with private industry to translate fundamental research through to commercial outcomes. As an academic, you will have an ongoing and distinguished track record of high-quality publications and/or non-traditional research outputs (the latter particularly applicable if you have extensive experience in private industry). You are strategic and collaborative, and have outstanding interpersonal, communication and mentoring skills. Your commitment to continuous improvement will ensure the ongoing review and improvement of practices and processes to achieve high-quality, efficient and integrated service excellence.

About the role

You will lead the Australian Research Centre for Interactive and Virtual Environments (IVE) in the development of research and external partnerships to deliver sustainable and industry-leading research outcomes for the Centre. You will articulate, contribute to and drive the strategic development of IVE as a University ‘Scale and Focus’ Research Centre. You will collaborate with the IVE Leadership Team and Centre Board to develop strategies to grow the Centre, and to promote and support a vibrant and active research environment and culture, including mentoring research and academic ECR and MCR staff. You will provide strong advocacy and representation for IVE across and outside of the University, developing and managing strategic partnerships. 

To be successful you will have

  • A doctorate and an outstanding international record of achievement in a relevant research field or industry
  • Sustained levels of diversified research income in competitive research funding schemes or evidence of commercial outcomes if working in an industry
  • Evidence of significant citation indices or equivalent esteem measures, as appropriate to the field of research
  • Significant record as a principal supervisor of successful HDR student completions and/or the mentoring of more junior  staff and evidence of their career development and progression
  • Distinguished performance and achievement in research, including success in competitive grant acquisition and high-quality publications
  • High level membership/engagement with relevant professional associations and/or national competitive funding bodies
  • Evidence of contribution to the development and implementation of strategic priorities and plans
