Under broad direction, the Digital Content Lead will oversee the development and implementation of content strategies, innovative website design and content creation, and ongoing maintenance across all Flinders University sites (external, students, staff and Library). Site architecture, content design and copy will maintain a user-centric approach and adopt best practice in UX, UI and SEO to drive website performance.
The incumbent is responsible for leading specialist website design and content roles, the ongoing resourcing of service requests, managing workflows and the allocation of work, as well as leading large-scale web content projects and content collections. This includes oversight of College content creation and identifying opportunities for repurposing to maximise resources.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Digital Content Lead is accountable for:

  • Leading the development and implementation of creative, dynamic and engaging content strategies across Flinders’ websites (external, students, staff and Library), that drive website performance and conversion, and adhere to best practice UX, Ul, SEO and accessibility standards.
  • Working closely with the Digital Marketing and Automation Lead, Digital Marketing Strategy Specialist and design and developer roles, drive new content projects and enhancements to support major campaigns and initiatives, including personalisation strategies.
  • In collaboration with the Digital Marketing Innovation team and other marketing team members, ensure the website brings to life current campaigns and branding, delivers best practice UX and UI and drives performance.  
  • Managing the ongoing maintenance of content across Flinders’ sites, ensuring content is accurate and timely. This includes large website content collections.
  • Working closely with the Head of Digital Marketing Innovation, and with the central and College content roles, ensure all content service requests and projects are prioritised, resourced and triaged effectively across the team. This includes monitoring author access across the University.
  • Overseeing the College Content Producers to ensure content and site design is delivered in line with best practice and finding opportunities to share ideas and repurpose content across the University sites and other digital platforms.
  • In collaboration with the Head of Digital Marketing Innovation, develop and deliver training programs and approve AEM users.
  • Implementing the online presence roadmap and supporting digital marketing projects as required. This includes working with technical/development teams to enhance user experience.
  • Supporting the team with content development and implementation across Flinders sites, including writing short and long form copy, designing and updating pages in AEM and servicing content requests as needed.
  • Maintaining regular reports to track jobs and customer satisfaction across the University websites.
  • Leading the development of web content standards, practices and processes to ensure web content is engaging, lean, searchable, maintains a user-centric information architecture and is not duplicated across websites.
  • Maintaining regular site reporting and quality reviews to identify opportunities for new projects, improvements and optimisation, and implement these through the central and College content roles.
  • Ongoing research of emerging trends and technology in digital content delivery and applying this to the content management system (AEM).
  • Using marketing systems to track projects and empower other staff in using Wrike, Outfit, Service One and other systems as required.
  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Completion of a degree in communications, media studies, marketing or a related discipline with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education and/or training.
  • Experience and understanding of the complexity and management of large-scale websites, preferably within the higher education sector.
  • Extensive experience in working with content management systems and other web publishing platforms (experience in Adobe Experience Manager and Wordpress will be an advantage).
  • Demonstrated commitment to web content best practice including information architecture, user experience, accessibility and SEO. 
  • Experience in establishing training programs, support mechanisms, service delivery and standards to support content governance.
  • Experience in setting up and managing systems and processes to support service provision.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing web content and design projects.
  • Experience in the supervision, delegation and allocation of website design and content work.
  • Demonstrated communication and service delivery skills within a complex organisation.
  • Well-developed organisational and communication skills with the capacity to manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and meet deadlines.
  • A high-level of interpersonal and stakeholder management skills to enable the cooperative development and execution of website content strategy.
