The Opportunity

The ALA is Australia’s national biodiversity data infrastructure providing biodiversity data and related products and services to over 75,000 users in research, government, industry and to the public.  Funded under the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) and hosted by CSIRO, the ALA is the Australian node of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility.

In this role you will join a national team of 50 people using contemporary open-source products and cloud technologies to make Australia’s biodiversity data interoperable and accessible. You will:

  • Manage digital content on the ALA web presence ensuring consistency across its various components and ALA’s software applications. You will act as a point of coordination within the ALA ensuring our products and services deliver a consistent messaging and user experience and are effectively governed with respect to content. 
  • Be responsible for ensuring that the user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) of the website are optimized for the best possible user experience. This will involve working closely with web developers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure that the website is easy to navigate, visually appealing, and engaging for users.
  • Work closely with ALA’s communications team to ensure digital content development and maintenance aligns with communication strategy & tactics

Your duties will include:
  • Developing and managing a content calendar, writing and editing content, ensuring content accuracy, formatting, and publishing content using a content management system (CMS).
  • Collaborating with web designers and developers to ensure that website design and layout are user-friendly, visually appealing, and easy to navigate.
  • Conducting regular website testing to identify areas for improvement.
  • Lead engagement with external users with regard to ALA projects ensuring user needs inform the development of ALA digital content.
  • Work closely with ALA’s communications team to ensure digital content development and maintenance aligns with communication strategy & tactics
  • Provide Level 0 and Level 1 user support functions when required.

Salary: AU$89,680 - AU$ 101,459 per annum plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

Essential:

  • Demonstrated high-level skills in the development and management of web content.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including an ability to develop engaging content.
  • Sound understanding of IT as it pertains to the support of digital channels.
  • Excellent team and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Proven track record in testing web applications and expertise in UX/UI

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with WordPress CMS, Miro, Figma, and any software testing tools.
