  • HE08 Step 1 $76.63 per hour

  • mainly based at Westmead Clinic for Oral Health, (however may occasionally be required to work at our Surry Hills clinic at Sydney dental hospital)

About the opportunity

The Dental Prosthetics Educator is responsible for ensuring students are provided with appropriate technical and teaching support by co-ordinating and delivering the first-year dental technology program; co-ordinating with and supporting academic staff in the delivery of the preclinical removable prosthodontics program in second year and managing. The Dental Education Educator is also responsible for co-ordinating and monitoring all aspects of the technical support (including dental materials) provided to years 3 & 4 students. This includes taking responsibility for the negotiation, co-ordination and monitoring of services provided by the in-house and commercial laboratories.

The Dental Education Officers have overall responsibility for the safety and smooth operation of the laboratory, and the authority to suspend any user, in breach of safety regulations or safe operating procedures. The roles have the authority to purchase equipment and consumables for the Laboratory using the Corporate Credit Card. The role makes decisions in consultation with the Associate Dean’s and senior academic staff within the Clinical School and works autonomously on a day-to-day basis in accordance with the policies, priorities, and objectives of the faculty.

Your key responsibilities will be

  • management, co-ordination and monitoring of all aspects of technical support to prosthodontic dental students. This includes taking responsibility for the negotiation, co-ordination and monitoring of services provided by the in-house and commercial laboratories

  • supervising the activities of the Dental Education Officer(s) ensuring adequate coverage during peak semester period. Mentor the Dental Education Officer(s) ensuring access to developmental activities, particularly new prosthodontic procedures

  • resolving problems and troubleshooting on clinical patient laboratory work for undergraduate dental students. This includes monitoring the quality of student work being sent to the laboratories as well as products returning from the laboratories

  • teaching, monitoring and advising undergraduate and postgraduate dental students

  • organising course structures and assessments for undergraduate and postgraduate dental students (in consultation with the academic staff)

  • implementing curriculum requirements using detailed knowledge of academic and administrative policies, and understanding of the interrelationship between policies and activities in liaison with teaching and clinical staff

  • supervise and help organise student assessments

About you

We are looking for a Dental Prosthetics Educator

  • with an advanced Diploma of dental prosthetics or higher

  • is registered with AHPRA (full registration as a Dental Prosthetist)

  • preferably practised a minimum of 3 years as a clinician

  • has proven supervision and leadership skills & demonstrated negotiation and liaison skills

  • knowledge of the use of Procera technology and other CAD/CAM applications.

  • experience in the management and co-ordination of workload, including the workload of others

  • advanced technical prosthodontic skills

  • advanced dental technical skills particularly in relation to all aspects of removable prosthodontics and aspects of fixed prosthodontics and an awareness of procera applications

  • demonstrated management and organisational skills and the ability to prioritise, monitor and co-ordinate tasks
