About the Role

The Dean of Research will provide leadership and vision in setting the strategic research directions for the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work. Expanding research through the attraction of external grant and contract income, you will establish the College’s reputation on an international scale in alignment with the strategic directions of Flinders University. As a key member of the College Leadership team, you will work collaboratively with the senior staff to ensure that high-quality research outcomes are achieved.

You will be responsible for engaging with industry, government, and other external organisations, strengthening research collaborations internally and externally and supporting recruitment of international and domestic higher degree research students and research fellowships. In addition, the Dean of Research will be required to provide leadership and direction to staff and students in relation to research plans, the development of successful track records in strategic areas of research and the provision of feedback on individual grant applications and publications.

About You

As the Dean of Research, the ideal candidate will have an outstanding international research reputation, particularly in an area of strategic focus in the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work. This will be demonstrated through success in external research income and/or fellowships, high-quality research outputs and developing partnerships with local, national, and international stakeholders. You will be a highly experienced academic leader, with experience in the implementation of research strategy, in managing and mentoring staff, and in overseeing higher degree research programs and students. You will be an interpersonal communicator in all forms, able to negotiate and solve problems effectively whilst building and maintaining productive relationships. You will hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field.

In addition, you should also demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of contemporary national and international contexts for research, research training, research engagement with industry, government and/or community organisations, intellectual property, and research commercialisation.

  • Understanding of research activities related to the management of research partnerships, research projects, research teams, resources, research budgets, quality assurance and governance at an organisational level in an area relevant to the College’s research portfolio.

  • An ability to contribute constructively and collaboratively to the overall strategic performance and positioning of the College, as a member of the College’s Senior Leadership Team.

  • A collaborative approach to a collegiate environment; allowing you to develop and achieve shared objectives.
