The Adelaide Law School was established in 1883 and is South Australia’s oldest law school. The School is one of three schools—along with the Adelaide Business School and School of Economics and Public Policy—that comprise the Faculty of the Professions, the University of Adelaide’s largest faculty. South Australia’s highest ranked law school, in 2020 the School was awarded a 5-star rating for exceptional performance and quality standards by QS World Rankings.
Reporting to the Executive Dean, the Dean of Law is a member of the Faculty Executive and contributes to the overall management and leadership of the Faculty while working collaboratively with the broader university. The Dean of Law provides academic leadership to the Adelaide Law School, advances excellence in teaching, ensures high quality graduates, and enables research outputs that have national and international impact. They will also be required to nurture and build upon the School’s strong connections with external stakeholders including government, defence, the judiciary and the professions.
The University is seeking outstanding candidates with a record of academic distinction and significant professional standing within the law. They should possess an established reputation as a respected leader, including experience in strategy development and implementation and leading and managing change. Evidence of an inspirational style which promotes a culture of high performance should be coupled with outstanding
interpersonal and leadership skills.
