The Role

The Dean of Graduate Research provides strategic leadership for the University's Higher Degree Research programs and leadership and management of Higher Degree Research student and supervisor training and support services. Working closely with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and College leadership teams, the Dean of Graduate Research fosters a high quality Higher Degree Research training program aligned with the goals of the University's Strategic Plan.

Flinders University and Higher Degree Research Leadership and Management

Flinders University is in the midst of a remarkable growth in research activity.  External research funding has more than doubled in the past three years, driving greater levels of research activity and capacity that creates an enormously positive and inspiring research environment for our Higher Degree Research students.  Initiatives such as the introduction of our industry co-funded Enterprise HDR scholarships and Australia’s first combined PhD/MBA degree program attest to Flinders’ innovative approaches to supporting and developing our HDR students as the crucial next generation of engaged researchers and research leaders.  The research growth is occurring alongside major investments in research and research facilities, including the recently established Tonsley Innovation District facilities and a new Health and Medical Research Building and new facilities in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD, both scheduled for completion in early 2024.

Within this exciting environment, the Dean of Graduate Research is responsible for leadership and management of our Office of Graduate Research (OGR) team which, through an ethos of efficient and stakeholder-focussed service, provides key support services across the University for our HDR students.  OGR responsibilities include management of enrolment, progression and completion of HDR studies, provision of high level training for our HDR students and of their supervisors and a range of other services including support for HDR student wellbeing. With a focus on quality, excellence, and employability, the OGR ensures that our Higher Degree Research students are provided with the opportunity to connect and collaborate across disciplines within the University and with diverse external organisations, institutions, and partners.
