Curtin University has partnered with the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) to form the DataHarvest Initiative, delivered through the Centre for Crop Disease Management (CCDM). This exciting new team is set to build expertise to advance the management of data derived from development and extension (RD&E) projects on behalf of GRDC. DataHarvest will achieve its goal by upskilling GRDC research partners Australia-wide to ensure they can expertly collect, manage and appropriately share grains RD&E data.

You will be supporting the project lead and working with Curtin’s Library Research Services in the development of face-to-face and online data management resources (materials/videos of Data Capture and Storage) specific to the grains industry.

We are seeking a detail-oriented Data Librarian that is interested in a chance to help guide and shape research data management support that will have a direct impact on real world issues. In this role, you will:
  • Maintain a Data Catalogue, quality check incoming metadata entries for and data management plans for compliance with existing guidelines.
  • Provide support and advice to researchers in agriculture including best practice in research data management (RDM.
  • Develop and maintain online data management resources in collaboration with members of the DataHarvest Project Team, including online self-help and training resources/videos.
  • Support the evaluation and reporting of data guidelines compliance.
  • Share developments in agricultural RD&E data support with other organisations through training workshops and other avenues.
We are looking for (the ideal candidate):
  • Completion of a relevant degree (e.g Information science, Data science, Agribusiness) with relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education.
  • Demonstrated information management skills including a thorough understanding of the application of new and emerging technologies relevant to research data management.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing high quality, client-focussed services.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well within a team.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to work flexibly and independently, with limited direction, to manage time, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of agricultural research (desirable).
As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role.
