Your expertise as a data engineer will be used to support the research of ENDIA (http://www.endia.org.au/ ) a study which is investigating the environmental determinants of type 1 diabetes (T1D). If we can understand what causes T1D then we can modify these factors to prevent it.

The key responsibility of the Data engineer will be to deliver the ENDIA Data Management and Stewardship Plan that will recommend the strategic direction for an ENDIA Data Coordinating Centre.

The data engineer will scope the information systems that will best accommodate the varying data being generated by ENDIA researchers and how best to make it accessible to internal and external researchers. They will explore how the integration of research outcomes within ENDIA, and potentially external to ENDIA (for example with other registries such as the Australian Diabetes Data Network registry) can be achieved. The data engineer will ensure adherence to international standards for privacy and protection of human subjects and democratizing access to data via a hierarchy of controls. They will consider factors ranging from participant rights through to cost-effectiveness using resources such as the FAIR data principles.

To be successful you will need:

  • Demonstrated experience authoring and curating metadata (metadata standards, identifiers, licences) and application of FAIR data principles.
  • Demonstrated experience working in large-scale complex research projects (ideally in the data and technology space).
