About the Role
Joining the Office of the Provost team, the Data Analyst will deliver analyses, insights, reporting and presentations to support informed decision-making and the development of Melbourne's academic strategy.
Working with the Senior Data Analysts, utilising both internal and external qualitative and quantitative data to provide actionable insights, contributing to strategy development aimed at enhancing the student experience.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the development of strategy and policy in the Office of the Provost by providing analyses and actionable insights
- Generating and contributing to reports, correspondence, presentations and insights to inform discussions and papers for senior executives. Translating complex data sets into concise reports with compelling narratives that highlight key findings
- Assisting with the collection of detailed metrics and data sets to underpin the Education and Community measures within the Advancing Melbourne Performance Framework
- Contributing to Office of the Provost projects as a team member and adviser, including supporting working groups and committees
- Collaborating with relevant stakeholders across the university.
Who we are looking for
Demonstrating flexibility for various purposes, audiences and styles, you should possess high-level writing and presentation skills, all while maintaining strong attention to detail. Your excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills will enable you to build and maintain effective relationships and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Additionally, you will showcase your strong organisational skills, initiative, and problem-solving abilities to manage multiple complex tasks and anticipate project needs.
You will also have:
- Extensive experience and specialist knowledge in data analysis, interpretation and reporting
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to critically evaluate information; reconcile conflicts; analyse, interpret and generate actionable insights from multiple sources of data
- Ability to structure reports using compelling storytelling techniques to provide clear insights and support decision-making
- Technically proficient in understanding reporting / data analytics tools and using core University data systems (e.g. InfoHub, Themis, OneCRM, CAPS)
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills with a high-level of expertise in Excel and PowerPoint including the use of advanced functions, pivot tables, and data visualisation tools

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
