Maintain and enhance a team of operational security specialists that realises the cyber resilience capabilities of the University.

Receiving broad direction and operating with a high overall degree of autonomy, the Cyber Security Operations Lead plays a vital role to develop, maintain and enhance a team of operational security specialists that realises the cyber resilience capabilities of the University. This is achieved by implementing a continuous security operations cycle comprising threat intelligence gathering, threat hunting, developing and maintaining use cases and playbooks for detection of indicators of compromise (IOC), triaging and responding to alerts, containing threats, triggering incident response, and implementing enhancements based on lessons learnt.

The Cyber Security team is also be responsible for performing application penetration testing, vulnerability scans, use of honeypots and other deceptive techniques, post-incident forensic investigations, regular threat modelling and threat hunting, and red/blue teaming exercises.

To be successful you will need:

  • A deep understanding of core IT including IP networking, computer architecture, operating systems (Windows, Unix, and MacOS), relational database systems, messaging systems, and security tools such as firewalls and end point security protection.

  • Excellent working knowledge of information security threats and preventive/detective technologies and techniques.

  • A healthy paranoia, curiosity, sense of responsibility and high motivation to fight cyber-attacks, insider threats and human error to minimise the impact of security incidents to the University.

  • The ability to write program code in a scripting language such as Python and JavaScript is a plus.

  • Well-developed verbal, written communication skills with the ability to build rapport with various stakeholders.
