Your new role

As a Counsellor/Counsellor (Registrar), you will work with members of the team to provide a full range of individual and group counselling, consultancy to staff on issues related to student counselling, promotion of counselling service and group programs.

In this role you will

  • Perform psychological assessments to appraise cognitive, emotional, intellectual and behavioural functioning of clients referred to Psychological and Counselling Services
  • Undertake individual, couple and group interventions with clients (students), utilising a variety of methodologies including behaviour and cognitive therapy and systemic intervention.
  • Provide consultation and liaises with academics and external agencies to identify strategies to help individuals cope with a range of psycho-social issues, eg mental illness, psychological problems, disability/illness, acculturation and adjustment difficulties.
  • Develop and implement preventative educational workshops and programs for students.
  • Participate in research projects as appropriate to improve the knowledge base related to counselling and psychological services in higher education and to inform clinical practice. 
Essential Criteria
  • Relevant post graduate qualification and eligibility for registration as a clinical or counselling psychologist or registrar in Australia consistent with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
  • Demonstrated knowledge of short-term methods of intervention for clients with high support needs
  • Proven ability to liaise effectively with a range of other professionals and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct assessments and to apply counselling interventions relevant to the needs of a culturally diverse tertiary student population
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills including computer literacy with email and internet
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the needs of students
  • Experience in the development and delivery of group programs to staff and students (desirable)
  • Experience working with indigenous issues and clients (desirable)
  • Experience in delivery of telehealth services (desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience in the tertiary education sector (desirable)
