Your new role

Do you love working in an environment where you can make things happen collaboratively and create value through strategic corporate communication and media engagement? Curtin University is currently seeking a Corporate Communications Specialist to join our dynamic team of communication experts.

In this role, you will play a crucial part in fostering and nurturing positive relationships with our key stakeholders, particularly within media, while also crafting persuasive and captivating messages tailored for various internal and external channels and target audiences.

Your superior writing and editing skills will be instrumental in excelling in this fast-paced, dynamic position. By supporting the Director and Deputy Director, you will actively contribute to the implementation of the University's comprehensive communications strategy, upholding Curtin’s brand and reputation.

We are looking for an experienced communications professional who is skilled in strategic messaging and creating compelling content. You will ideally have demonstrated experience in media relations and will bring energy, creativity and innovation to the team.

Opportunity for part time work arrangements will be considered for the right candidate.
 
About You

  • You are a communications professional with a passion for developing and executing internal and media communications strategies that support organisational goals and objectives.
  • You have demonstrated experience in crisis or critical incident communications.
  • You excel in writing and editing messaging for staff and key internal stakeholders.
  • You are an excellent written communicator and sub-editor, with experience in deciphering complex material and writing for a range of audiences and channels.
  • You know what the media/journalists want and have proven ability to deliver it.
  • You have experience in monitoring and measuring media coverage through appropriate platforms (e.g. iSentia, Meltwater)
  • You are very well organised and produce high quality work, under pressure and to short deadlines.
  • You have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualification and substantial relevant experience in corporate communications, PR, media or related field.
You will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role.

The Corporate Communications team supports the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer in advancing the University’s vision, mission and goals by enhancing its public profile and reputation, enhancing staff engagement and providing strong communications advice and content delivery.

The team also develops and advances the reputation and standing of the University through strategic public relations, media and internal communications activities. It also plays an important role in critical incident communications.
