About the Role
The Coordinator: Discover Services leads a team responsible for the management of the Library’s Discovery Services, Research Outputs Repository system and is responsible for capturing and the provision of research outputs metadata to University systems for research reporting and reuse in corporate systems.
With a direct reporting line to the Manager: Information Management Services, this position provides advice to researchers on the inclusion of research outputs onto the institutional repository and will ensure Repository Services support the University’s Open Access policy, compliance with Funder Open Access mandates, publisher licenses and author archiving management rights.
The University of South Australia Library
The University of South Australia Library supports the University’s teaching, learning and research mission through the provision of relevant information resources and associated services. The Library also coordinates copyright for the University. There are four campus libraries located at City East, City West, Magill and Mawson Lakes and an off-campus Library Service that supports regional engagement at Whyalla and Mt Gambier. Information technology and information resource management services are managed from the Mawson Lakes campus.
The Library operates in an environment of increasing availability of digital information in support of the University’s Digital Learning Strategy. As such, it has accelerated its commitment to acquire the vast majority of resources in digital format which are accessible and discoverable via an established next generation Library Management System. The Library has a growing research collection with over 700,000 ebooks and online journals available anytime, anywhere, on any device. The Library maintains a targeted, high quality print collection and is the custodian of several valuable special collections including the Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Library.
The Library is operating in an environment of increasing availability of digital information and demand and plays a significant role in training staff and students in information skills.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop workflows, policies and procedures to support the efficient and comprehensive collection of the University’s research outputs
- Manage and oversee data quality and ensure that research outputs metadata conforms to agreed standards for the Enterprise Data Warehouse and reuse in corporate systems and services
- Support the University’s reporting of research outputs for Excellence in Research Australia (ERA)
- Ensure that Repository Services’ processes support the University’s Open Access policy, compliance with Funder Open Access mandates, publisher licenses and author archiving management rights
- Provide advice to the researchers on the inclusion of research outputs onto the institutional repository, including appropriate copyright permissions, in line with the University’s Open Access Policy
- Manage copyright and license permissions relating to the archiving of research outputs to maximise access and minimise risk, and in liaison with the University Copyright Officer and the Knowledge Base and Licensing Librarian maintain documentation on author archiving policies and permission
Essential Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated current working knowledge of MARC, MARCXML, Dublin Core and other relevant metadata schema
- Substantial knowledge of the resource management and digital modules of an integrated library management system
- Experience working across copyright and rights management issues relevant to institutional repository collections and trends in digital information and preservation
- Significant demonstrated in depth knowledge of open access policy, publisher licenses and archiving rights management policies, procedures and standards at a local, national and international level
- Experience leading the development, implementation and continuous improvement of procedures and administrative systems, as well as have an understanding of benchmarking, performance management, change management principles, practices and methodologies
