About the team 

The University Library provides information resources, services, systems and spaces to support, stimulate and innovate teaching, learning and research. The University Library is committed to developing and delivering services to be strategic enablers for the University in meeting its goals; enabling and promoting the creation, storage, transfer and seamless access to information and collaborating closely with the University community to deliver innovative solutions for their research, teaching and learning needs.

The Digitisation Centre of WA is an important piece of research infrastructure that aims to digitise, to global archival standards, the major Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences collections held in Western Australia. This Centre includes as partners the Western Australian universities, the State Library of Western Australia and the Western Australian Museum. The facilities and staff are split across two locations with digitisation of print, transparencies, film, and video located at the Barry J Marshall Library at the University of Western Australia and audio digitisation located at the State Library of Western Australia.

About the opportunity 

As the appointee, you will under limited direction, coordinate all the activities and services of the Digitisation Centre of WA. This role represents a unique opportunity to work with collection owners across WA’s gallery, library, archives, and museum (GLAM) sector and play a vital role in the preservation and provision of access to Western Australia’s cultural history and heritage.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent competency
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organise and innovate, set priorities Relevant professional experience in contemporary digitisation equipment and processes
  • Knowledge of current trends, developments and standards in digitisation
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate staff in a rapidly changing technological and service environment
  • Awareness of conservation ethics (as outlined in the AICCM Code of Ethics and Practice)

About you 

To be successful in this role you will possess strong communication and stakeholder relationship management skills. Liaison with key stakeholders in the Centre including the Steering Committee, researchers, and collections owners is critical to the success of the Centre.

Individuals with strong cultural heritage experience but limited digitisation experience are encouraged to apply, and secondments will be considered.
