The Coordinator, Communication role sits within the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and tells and shares the stories of Deakin while contributing to the day-to-day operations of the media and corporate affairs team.

You are a self-starter, passionate, highly motivated, and think laterally, strategically, and opportunistically; navigate complexity and communicate with influence with a range of internal and external clients and stakeholders. You pursue success in a proactive-oriented and results-driven environment.

The incumbent will coordinate the development and delivery of proactive and strategic corporate communications, including media placement, to increase Deakin's profile, promote thought leadership, highlight areas of strategic importance, and protect the University’s reputation.

You will provide advice to the Senior Manager, Media and Corporate Affairs and work tactically and proactively to provide integrated communications support and partnering across a range of Deakin initiatives and programs.

Your key responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of a multi-layered, proactive-focused media and corporate affairs strategy
  • Work tactically and hands on to plan, write and edit content to support the successful delivery of corporate communications projects, in partnership with a wide range of internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Proactively build and maintain relationships with internal and external teams and stakeholders, and Deakin faculty and portfolio contacts, to provide an end-to-end corporate communication partnering service and develop the required content
  • Provide advice and support to staff across the University and to external stakeholders on media and communication positioning
  • From time-to-time, respond to requests to enquiries from journalists seeking comment on University initiatives and issues, balancing deadlines, and responses with gaining the appropriate approvals from stakeholders, in a large and multi-layered organisation
  • Coordinate and support the administrative functions of the Media and Corporate Affairs unit, including the uploading and distribution of media content, and compiling and issuing the Deakin Daily News report as part of a shared duty
