THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Coordinator, Aquatic Facilities Safety and Compliance to manage a team of lifeguards to ensure patron safety and compliance in all aquatic areas aligned with all Royal Life Saving Society Australia (RLSSA) requirements, including provision of aquatic emergency incident response, rescue techniques and public awareness around swimming pool safety and legislative requirements.

Reporting to the Manager, Sport Venues Operations, the role will be an integral part of the middle management team responsible for ensuring our aquatic facilities are open to members and guests promoting the ongoing safe participation in line with industry guidelines.

Duties include:

  • Coordinate and contribute to all aspects of the annual RLSSA aquatic centre audit requirements to maintain a 5-star facility safety rating;
  • Manage recruitment, induction, training, mentoring and review of lifeguard staff, ensuring adequate resourcing (roster) and team qualifications are current and records are kept;
  • Build and manage relationships with the Aquatic Programs and Venue Operations teams to collaboratively ensure the safety, presentation and quality of aquatic venue operations;
  • Support the development of the lifeguard team, by assessing and managing performance and identifying development opportunities and training in line with RLSSA requirements, including quarterly in-service training;
  • Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of the centre's Emergency Management Plan and WHS compliance ensuring the lifeguard team preparedness and understanding their responsibilities as Area Wardens and first responders.
  • Ensure that the lifeguard team are familiar and in compliance with the Sport & Aquatics Centre standard operating procedures, including pool supervision, application of Keep Watch Policy and aquatic safety requirements;
  • Perform lifeguard direct service duties as required to support business operational requirements;

Macquarie University Sport and Aquatic Centre (MUSAC) is a multi-purpose venue. Located at Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde, our facility includes a 6-lane heated indoor pool, and an 8-lane outdoor heated Olympic-sized swimming pool, a large Health Club, Gymnastics Hall and sports halls.

ABOUT YOU

You have a customer centric mindset combined with demonstrated leadership skills and experience in the safe operations of aquatic facilities combining industry knowledge, people management skills and an understanding of safety and compliance.

In addition, you meet the following criteria:

  • Experience in aquatic operational leadership roles in Sport, Aquatic and Recreation facilities;
  • Demonstrated skill and experience leading and managing staff;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of RLSSA GSPO and NSW Public Swimming Pool and Spa Advisory standards;
  • Knowledge of WHS and public safety applications within an aquatic facility;
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to respond to unplanned events effectively and productively;
  • Pool Lifeguard Workplace Supervisor
  • Current Pool Lifeguard Qualification (SISSS00129)
  • Must be available to work open and/or close shifts on weekdays and weekends, as required.
