In addition to the development of new accommodation assets, the first stage of the precinct which commenced construction in Quarter 2 2019 also includes:
- Curtin Central (the recently completed new bus interchange)
- A new home for the University’s School of Design and the Built Environment including commercial space available for lease by industry partners
- Grocer and specialty retail
- Public spaces and amenity
Curtin are currently working in partnership with Hunter Executive Search Consultants to engage an experienced Contract Director to manage the successful performance of the Master Operating Agreement for the development and operation of new accommodation assets within the University. This includes student accommodation to be operated by St Catherine’s College and Unilodge Australia; the Nesuto Curtin Hotel and residential apartments which will be available for lease.
This forms part of the broader construction of the University’s Exchange precinct which is the first of its kind for Australian universities, making it a rare, unique and exciting opportunity to be involved with, and shape and own the strategy for.
Curtin has a complex legal contract with an external investor for the development and operation of these new accommodation assets. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Contract Director, Accommodation has overall responsibility for managing the successful performance of the Master Operating Agreement (“MOA”), including the management of the contract relationship, obligations, and outcomes, monitoring the delivery of key performance indicators, and making informed commercial decisions that balance risk and reward.
The position will play a vital role in the governance and management structure of the contract. You will drive the continuous improvement of the Operating Services Plans and contract management to ensure the external providers meet their obligations as specified in the Master Operating Agreement (MOA) and manage all risks associated with commercial matters.
Additionally, you will be responsible for creating a new Housing Strategy for the University and driving the operationalisation of this.
This is an important role for the university, with several critical internal and external stakeholders that will need to be effectively managed and communicated with. This role will require someone who is detail orientated, highly efficient and can develop relationships quickly; have difficult conversations whilst still maintaining relationships and that holds themselves accountable.
Coupled with the ability to draw on extensive experience within a similar role and relevant tertiary qualification; we are also seeking the following skills and attributes;
- Extensive knowledge of residential market analysis and the development of sector-specific marketing strategy
- Knowledge and experience in residential and/or hotel, hospital/healthcare or mining camp accommodation service provision.
- A high level of commercial acumen and proven experience in complex, high-risk contract development and management.
- Outstanding stakeholder management skills and the ability to interact with a diverse group of people to achieve successful outcomes
- Sound knowledge of best practice procurement process and standards
- Demonstrated financial and budget planning ability to achieve commercial outcomes
- Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with the ability to manage and mentor to ensure staff are challenged motivated to their full potential.
