About This Opportunity 

This is a unique conjoint opportunity for an experienced and dedicated Research Fellow in Speech Pathology to join the Speech Pathology team at UQ’s School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences and the Speech Pathology department at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Metro South Hospital and Health Service. The aim of this conjoint position is to enhance the research capabilities of both institutions in the area of adult Speech Pathology.

As a Conjoint Research Fellow, you will engage in research and leverage your established record of publication in Speech Pathology to develop national recognition in this area. This position will involve planning, undertaking and disseminating clinically-based research activities (including presenting at conferences and sharing findings with key stakeholders).

As a Research Academic at Level B, you will fulfil a chief investigator role in applications for external research funds and supervise University of Queensland honours, masters and PhD students. You will also support research, quality assurance and evidence-based practice activities being undertaken at The University of Queensland and Princess Alexandra Hospital.

This position will be jointly based within the Speech Pathology units at the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at The University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus , and at the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) and the Centre for Functioning and Health Research , Metro South Health.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for three (3) years at Academic level B.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $106,079 - $125,687 plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $124,113 - $147,054 annually.

About You  

  • A primary qualification in speech pathology, with clinical experience and understanding of clinical priorities and constraints within the healthcare setting.

  • Completion of a PhD in the discipline area, with a growing profile in research which is relevant to speech pathology services provided at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

  • A proven ability to develop, organise, and undertake research in consultation with others to develop cooperative research initiatives, with experience in both quantitative and qualitative research methods.

  • Evidence of engaging in multidisciplinary research and health services research, with evidence of translating research into clinical practice.

  • A commitment to building long-term relationships and research partnerships to support research capacity building within the PAH Speech Pathology department.

  • A desire to support research in a broad array of research areas with a focus on the continuum of care across acute and rehabilitation services.

  • Evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining, and managing external research funding.

  • A developing reputation and track record of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • A growing record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students and supporting speech pathologists to conduct clinically-based research activities.

  • Experience in meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with active contributions to external activities.

  • Mandatory Immunisations: It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

  • Speech Pathology Australia Registration: It is a requirement of this position that the incumbent has, or is eligible for, Speech Pathology Australia membership/registration.
