Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Students) 

The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students) provides administrative support to key strategic and operational functions of the University’s student-related and academic services. Under the general portfolio, the Office team support Portfolio leadership and facilitate dialogue between key service areas to help the Portfolio ensure Flinders’ educational offerings are innovative, of assured quality, and are student centred. About the Role 

As the Community Development Officer, you will develop and implement a suite of programs and events aimed at improving mental health, wellbeing and connectiveness of international and domestic students at Flinders University. In collaboration with International Student Services, the Health, Counselling and Disability Team, and the wider university, you will deliver initiatives that encourage help seeking behaviours and address mental health stigma to promote student wellbeing. You will also organise events and activities that aim to improve multicultural integration and intercultural connections on campus for international students.

In this position, you will also:

  • Recruit, train and manage student volunteers to support Oasis student led activities such as the Flinders Mates program, Wellbeing Ambassadors, and the Community Market.

  • Develop and implement evaluation plans and partner with students to coordinate post-event evaluations.

  • Facilitate administrative support initiatives regarding student wellbeing such as student progress support as required.

About You 

With your well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, you will build effective relationships with staff, students, and stakeholders within a diverse and multicultural context.  You will harness your high-quality promotion and communication skills to connect and engage with communities through social media. Your sound knowledge and skills in program planning, and community development and engagement approaches will enable you to successfully achieve required objectives within scope and budget. Your keen attention to detail and organisational skills will allow you to autonomously prioritise tasks, meet deadlines and take initiative as required.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Have completed a degree with subsequent relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education and/or training.

  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of the wellbeing issues facing both international and domestic students in a contemporary Australian Higher Education Sector.

  • Exhibit well-developed computer skills, including a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office and desktop publishing.
