  • Base Salary $117,116 - $132,079 (pro-rata) + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The University Centre for Rural Health, Northern Rivers (UCRH) provides a multidisciplinary centre of excellence in education of students for clinical practice in rural health to support future workforce for regional Australia. We also conduct research relevant to the priorities and needs of rural communities, with a focus on Aboriginal health research, climate change and health impacts, education research and health services research.

We have an opportunity for an experienced Communications Specialist to join our team. The incumbent will lead the implementation, delivery, and evaluation of a broad range of communication related activities to meet established priorities, as set out in the UCRH Communication Strategy.  You will provide expert advice on internal and external communications activities including stakeholder engagement, partner outreach and reputation management. You will provide support and advice about communication activities to the Head of Rural Clinical School, UCRH and the Centre Manager, UCRH. Additionally, the role will provide leadership of a local network of communications contributors and will represent UCRH at relevant FMH/USYD and external fora.

The incumbent will improve the quality and effectiveness of key UCRH internal and external communications and branding activities and strengthen the profile of the UCRH with a range of stakeholder groups.  You will be required to make decisions on the day –to-day management and delivery of projects objectives, utilising excellent leadership skills, independent decision making and expertise in developing and implementing communications strategies on behalf of senior management.

About you

  • have tertiary qualification in communications and at least 5 years’ experience in a relevant role or an equivalent combination of training and work experience
  • excellent project management skills and the ability to work to deadline across project deliverables
  • proven insight into effectiveness and optimization of a range of formal and informal communications channels
  • demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with internal staff and with external agencies to support the development and implementation of activities
  • demonstrated a highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise with the staff at all levels and across multiple institutions
  • proven skills in creating content for a range of media
  • demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
