About This Opportunity 

The position will manage existing communication platforms for the Digital Enablement (DE) Project as well as advise upon and assist in the development of a range of tools to deliver improved communications.

This position will champion the cause of up-to-date communication medium, support staff across the project, instigate new initiatives and enhance the existing suite of communication options. The Communications Officer will work closely with staff from University’s Information Technology Services (ITS) and the Office of Marketing and Communications (OMC).

This position is located at our Toowong office location on High Street, just minutes from the CBD and walking distance from public transport.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Identify, research, and write material for internal and external communication channels.

  • Edit draft media releases, ensure approvals, and distribute through UQ News online and to media.

  • Organise events such as workshops or Project update meetings or photo shoots etc. where necessary.

  • Implement targeted communications strategies and initiatives that strengthen relationships and collaborations with stakeholders, students, staff, and key audiences.

  • Develop content and communications for major initiatives, projects, announcements, and events.

  • Develop and publish key articles and content for communication channels.

  • Interact and share knowledge within the team to assist in the development of work priorities, plans and approaches.

  • Maintain quality assurance standards and ensure all marketing and communication material and content is accurate and complies with UQ standards.

This is a HEW 5, full-time, fixed-term position through to 28 June 2024.

At HEW level 5, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $77,396 - $86,029, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $90,553 - $100,654 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.


About You  

  • Degree in marketing or communications or a relevant discipline with at least two years’ experience in a similar role; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.

  • Exceptional writing skills with the ability to generate engaging and accurate social media, web and digital marketing content within short timeframes.

  • Well-developed interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively over the phone, email and in person.

  • Excellent time management skills, including an ability to set, enforce and meet deadlines and prioritise own workload.

  • Ability to analyse results and report back on conversions of promotional campaigns.

  • Experience in the development, delivery and reporting of integrated electronic communications such as e-newsletters and digital campaigns.

The successful candidate may be required to complete background checks, including criminal checks.
