About the role
The Communications Lead (Indigenous Strategy) will support the Associate Director, Strategic Communications (Office of the Provost) and the Associate Director, Strategic Communications (Research) in the delivery of internal and external communication and stakeholder engagement strategies, plans and materials in relation, but not limited to, the University’s Indigenous Strategy Murmuk Djerring .
The strategy, launched in 2023, outlines the University of Melbourne’s continuing commitment to Indigenous self-determination and to honouring the knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, who have nurtured the lands and culture of this continent throughout millennia. Murmuk Djerring outlines five key priority areas: Leadership; Place, Heritage and Culture; Partnerships; Indigenous Knowledge; and Truth-telling and Justice.
This role will plan, develop, coordinate and deliver a broad range of communications activities to support Murmuk Djerring and other key initiatives as well as drive awareness and advocacy, internally and externally.

About you
As a vital member delivering Murmuk Djerring, you'll drive impactful communication projects, collaborating closely with key strategic communications personnel. Your adeptness in crafting culturally informed communication plans across various channels, from media relations to internal engagement, will be pivotal. Your strengths lie in fostering robust relationships with stakeholders, leveraging exceptional interpersonal skills, and creative problem-solving, demonstrating astute judgement to safeguard the University's reputation. Your collaborative spirit and deep understanding of strategic priorities will ensure seamless delivery of our communication objectives. You demonstrate, through consistent behaviour, respect for and compliance with culturally appropriate ways of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities.
