The Opportunity

The University of Tasmania has a long history of high-profile Antarctic and Southern Ocean research, focused primarily in its Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS ). Our current work is complementing this strength by building expertise across all of the Colleges in the University, to extend and work together with IMAS research groups. The College of Arts, Law and Education is currently investing significantly in humanities and social science research related to the Antarctic and Southern Ocean, building on existing strengths in law, humanities, creative arts and tourism studies. This investment is part of a larger initiative across the university to purposefully integrate humanities and social science research with scientific approaches to address the challenges facing the region.

What’s required

To help us deliver on this initiative, we are pleased to announce that multiple vacancies are now opened for applications. We are seeking specialists in geopolitics, environmental history and environmental communications to join our interdisciplinary team in the College of Arts, Law and Education as part of the University of Tasmania’s world-leading commitment to scholarly and policy work on the future of the Antarctic and Southern Ocean region.

• Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor of Antarctic Geopolitics - Academic Level B, C or D
• Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor in Environmental History – Academic Level B, C or D
• Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor of Environmental Communication – Academic Level C or D
