About the role

The Institute for Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Translation (IMPACT) develops new and effective responses to mental and physical health for our community using cutting-edge approaches to translate our medical research from the laboratory to real-world solutions.

IMPACT is looking for a passionate and creative professional to lead internal and external institute communications whilst supporting its multi-disciplinary team of 300+ researchers as they strive to improve the quality of life of our global community.

The Communications Coordinator will develop, implement, and deliver an engaging external communications strategy, and compelling, creative content to effectively build the profile of the Institute. The successful candidate will design and maintain internal communication channels and outputs to inform, guide and support IMPACT staff and students across a range of formats through audience appropriate messaging.

As a Communications Coordinator you will:

  • Lead the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of an external communications strategy to raise awareness of IMPACT’s profile and assist the Institute to achieve its goals and mission.
  • Coordinate, design and develop compelling, creative content across the Institute’s internal and external communication channels ensuring all content is on-brand and in line with Deakin requirements.
  • Create and maintain strong working relationships with institute members to develop and deliver engaging and creative content in a range of formats, including video, for diverse audiences within time, budget, and technical constraints.
  • Lead the development, coordination and implementation of IMPACT’s social media channels, websites and microsites ensuring all content is accurate and audience focussed.
  • Provide communications support and advice for research teams and projects looking to promote their clinical trial recruitment and research findings.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • An undergraduate qualification in communications/marketing or related field plus relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of extensive experience and specialist knowledge, education and/or training. At least 4 years subsequent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in understanding research content and translating that into communication pieces.
  • Proven capability to manage relationships and communicate collaboratively across the full spectrum of internal and external stakeholders applying outstanding interpersonal, verbal communication and expert networking skills.
  • Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to seamlessly switch between and adapt to different writing styles as needed with an understanding of audiences and tone.
  • High-level expertise to create visually engaging communications in-house where appropriate using design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud and/or Canva.
