  • Base Salary $100,032 to $108,979 + 17% Superannuation

About the opportunity

As a Commercialisation Officer, you will assist in the development of commercial opportunities for University research, technology and related agreements between the University and other organisations.

You will have the opportunity to liaise with the University’s Research Community and the corporate and public sectors to proactively develop commercialisation prospects for the University of Sydney.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work within a tight-knit team of 13, reporting to a Commercialisation Leader for the Faculty of Medicine & Health

  • prepare preliminary due diligence evaluations for new invention disclosures, using a supported and proven framework

  • support commercialisation projects through market and competitor analysis, finding comparable deals, preparing technology marketing flyers, investor opportunity disclosures and identifying potential licensees 

  • analyse technical and scientific literature and reports and research budgets

  • ensure that project files and relevant databases are kept up to date in line with protocol and policies

  • undertake appropriate administrative duties required of working within a university environment.

About you

If you are driven, organised, have a commercial mindset and are able to support a large and varied portfolio of commercialisation projects, you are who we are looking for.  

  • PhD qualifications Medicine and/or relative work experience in the research sector is highly desirable

  • ability to foster an entrepreneurial culture and build partnerships between the research, business and government communities

  • high level of oral and written communication skills and ability to manage competing demands

  • ability to review, develop and negotiate legal contracts to protect the University from liability

  • understanding of intellectual property protection and management

  • ability to identify capabilities and resources within the faculties, develop commercial plans and markets for identified services.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
