  • Base salary $135,820 to $143,310 + 17% Superannuation

About the opportunity
 
The Commercialisation Office within the Office of Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research has an excellent opportunity for a Commercialisation Manager to join their growing team!
As a Commercialisation Manager, you will be responsible for identifying university research, technology, and Intellectual Property (IP) suitable for commercial development and translation across the university, especially the Faculty of Engineering and help get it to market.
 
With a well-established track record in managing IP and commercialisation of research, you will promote and facilitate linkages between researchers and industry, optimising the translation of the university's research, technology, and expertise.
 
Reporting to the Head of Commercialisation, your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work collaboratively with other Commercialisation and Business Development Managers to identify IP and potential commercial partners

  • evaluate the market potential, help protect and determine commercialisation pathways for the IP

  • manage a portfolio of projects and drive them to commercialisation outcomes

  • provide high-level support and advice to researchers to develop, protect and effectively leverage the IP into commercial products or services

  • develop, review and negotiate commercial agreements with partners to license university IP or set up new ventures to commercialise the IP

  • manage a Commercialisation Associate within the Commercialisation team

  • develop partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders

  • work with other parts of the university innovation ecosystem to develop and deliver workshops and training programs for researchers and potential entrepreneurs.

About you
 
If you're someone with a track record in research translation and commercialisation or excellent business acumen in similar areas, this would be an excellent opportunity for you!

  • tertiary qualification in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Digital or Information Technology and/or business

  • experience working in a university or research environment

  • experience in developing commercial agreements and undertaking successful negotiations

  • proven experience in IP identification, customer and market validation, business planning

  • knowledge in intellectual property protection and management

  • experience working in or developing new ventures to commercialise deep tech is highly desirable

  • highly developed relationship management skills and experience in fostering an entrepreneurial culture

  • a thorough understanding of the innovation or commercialisation lifecycle and key issues at different stages

  • able to assess industrial applicability of research and advanced technology, associated business development and marketing

  • well developed network in industry or venture capital community is highly desirable.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the reasons for the position.
