The role

The Senior Research Fellows will be an AHPRA-qualified medical doctor (with an existing clinical appointment at Barwon Health) who will provide medical care to clinical trial participants and related medical support for clinical trials and ensure compliance with relevant medically related trial governance standards. These fellowships will also provide candidates with structured training and mentoring in research and clinical trials.

The Fellow will be provided with an experienced mentor, not directly involved in the Fellow’s clinical trials activity.

As a Clinical Trials Medical Officer (Senior research Fellow), you will:

  • Ensure that clinical trial procedures are conducted within parameters specified by local ethics and governance committees, national regulatory bodies (e.g., therapeutic goods administration), and international guidelines (e.g., GCP/ICH Research Guidelines), including but not limited to informed consent and adverse event management and processes.
  • Assist with recruitment of research participants into clinical trials, including a determination of potential eligibility.
  • Conduct medical assessments and provide ongoing clinical care to trail participants.
  • Liaise with clinical trial staff, including Chief Investigators, Research Fellows, Trial Coordinators, and other research staff.
  • Liaise with medical and allied health professionals, including members of partner organizations (e.g., Barwon Health)

Key Selection Criteria includes:

  • Completed a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery at an Australian or New Zealand University or successfully passed both parts of the Australian Medical Council exam process.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a practising doctor in Australia                 
  • General medical registration with AHPRA
  • Passion to develop a career as a clinician-trialist, including becoming future site principal investigator on both commercially funded and investigator-initiated clinical trials. (mentioned above in general overview of the role)

Special Requirements includes:

  • Working with Children and police check
  • Geelong-based appointment; candidate must be on-site during allotted hours
