About the opportunity
The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) is a flagship academic research organisation within the University of Sydney. The CTC conducts large, multicentre, and international investigator-initiated clinical trials, takes part in trials of national and international collaborative groups and contributes expertise to trials run by others. The research conducted by the CTC covers a broad range of therapeutic areas including oncology, cardiology, diabetology, nephrology, neonatal and perinatal health, and currently a number of exciting projects investigating treatments for COVID-19. The team at the Clinical Trials Centre is in a strong growth period, and due to development within the team multiple new positions have become available.
The Clinical Trial Operations Lead role, has an opportunity to lead a team, and project manage clinical trials and research projects within the Oncology research program. The successful candidate will have overall responsibility of management, co-ordination and administration of a number of clinical trials and research projects, including leadership of the team working on that project’s delivery. In addition, the team fosters ideas generation, opportunities for new processes and encourages people to challenge the status quo. We are looking for people who want to step up, and bring their positive leadership to foster a high-performing team to success.
The focus of this role is to work collaboratively with the various stakeholders of the project including, collaborators, vendors, project team members, relevant internal functional groups including Statistics and Clinical Data Management, other Clinical Trial Operations Leads and the CTC Senior Leadership Team to successfully manage the clinical trial operations and start-up activities.

a postgraduate qualification or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant experience and / or education/training
knowledge of clinical trial requirements during their lifecycle from start up to close out, including a detailed understanding of the regulatory and ethical approval process across Australia, as well as a thorough knowledge of ICH Guidelines and Good Clinical Practice
extensive relevant working experience in project management or coordination of clinical trials and other research projects
excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and achieve required outcomes
excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day-to-day operational matters
financial management experience and literacy, experience in management budgets and controlling income and expenditure desirable
line management experience desirable
the ability and willingness to travel (<20% of time)
Our ideal candidate will also have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with ability to work both independently, as part of, as well as leading, a team. They will be able to demonstrate ability to work under pressure with competing priorities.
