There are currently 4 client clusters that the Legal Services Team are providing services to. One of them is the MDHS cluster (which the Contract Officer will sit within) which supports: School of Biomedical Sciences, Melbourne Dental School, Melbourne Medical School, Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences.

About the role

As Clinical Trials Contracts Officer, you will directly report to the Director Legal Services, MDHS and will be responsible for efficiently and effectively supporting the process of establishing agreements to support clinical trials which are sponsored by the University of Melbourne.
You will work with template agreements for existing and developing processes and review, complete, negotiate and finalise a range of contracts - seeking further legal advice or review as necessary.

You will cultivate productive and collaborative working relationships with other members of the MDHS Legal Team and with relevant stakeholders across the University. In particular, you will liaise with MDHS faculty and researchers to support the effective management of contracting in support of clinical trials.

About you

You will bring to the role your working knowledge of contract law and commercial contracting as well as the ability to apply initiative, judgment and problem-solving skills, particularly to issues in commercial contracting. You will have excellent attention to detail, the ability to carefully follow guidelines and processes and will be able to maintain accurate records.

You will further have:

  • A law degree and/or demonstrated experience and expertise in drafting, negotiating, advising on contracts
  • Well-developed skills in time management, setting priorities, planning and organising own work and that of others in order to meet deadlines
  • Commitment to the provision of quality service, with demonstrated ability to provide user friendly, responsive client service
  • Desirable: Experience with or an understanding of clinical trial governance and/or processes
