About the opportunity

The University of Sydney's Rural Clinical School (Northern Rivers), known locally as the University Centre for Rural Health (UCRH), is a vibrant collaborative academic hub for rural health development. The UCRH is in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, an area characterised by significant disparities in social and economic conditions, a rapidly growing and ageing population, and a relatively high proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The UCRH provides a multidisciplinary centre of excellence in the education of students for clinical practice in rural health and conducts research relevant to the health needs of rural communities situated within the Northern Rivers region of NSW and elsewhere.

The university is seeking to employ a Lecturer (Clinical Education) (Level B) to support student placements within the Physiotherapy department of the Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) based in Lismore, with outreach to Ballina, Casino, Kyogle and other relevant LHD sites within the region. This position will be based in the Physiotherapy Department at Lismore Base Hospital, supported by the University of Sydney, and will work closely with the UCRH Allied Health team to support student placements and the multidisciplinary education program. The role will also involve mentoring and capacity building for clinicians within NNSWLHD to increase physiotherapy student placements.

Please note, the incumbent will be required to meet Health NSW's requirements for Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination as well as University of Sydney employment needs. This role requires the incumbent to live within the Northern Rivers region - relocation package may be available under specific circumstances. The region of Lismore and the Richmond Valley on the far North Coast of NSW offers something for everyone- from nature lovers to culture vultures and foodies. The area has everything from rainforest walking tracks to empty beaches, though its artistic offerings are just as celebrated. Lismore is at the heart of the region; here you'll find a vibrant arts and music scene, populated by a colourful collection of locals- please see the link below for more information on the region.

  • evaluate teaching and learning, demonstrating impact through improving student outcomes, experiences and learning
  • engage with best practice in clinical practice and teaching innovations
  • develop and suggest innovative practices in clinical education to improve educational outcomes, while aligning with relevant curriculum and accreditation requirements
  • apply expertise in clinical education to provide training, support and guidance to prepare students for effective and contemporary clinical practice within rural communities
  • contribute to a positive workplace culture and understand and acknowledge the complexities of rural communities and working within these communities.
