Southern Queensland Rural Health (SQRH) is a joint initiative of The University of Queensland (UQ), University of Southern Queensland (USQ), Darling Downs Health (DDH) and South West Hospital and Health Service (SWHHS). We support nursing, midwifery, allied health students and health professionals to develop a high quality and highly skilled workforce across regional, rural and remote Southern Queensland.

SQRH is funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health as a University Department of Rural Health under the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training Program (RHMTP). SQRH is funded to engage with the local communities to support the delivery of training to students, maintain and progress an evidence base and the rural health research agenda, support improvements in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, and provide regional leadership in developing innovative training solutions to address rural workforce recruitment retention.

About This Opportunity

This position will see you supporting effective, high quality rural training experiences for undergraduate physiotherapy students across regional, rural and remote Southern Queensland. You will also facilitate interprofessional learning opportunities during student placements and enhance of support and education to both students and clinical supervisors. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading interprofessional learning opportunities within the health care environment.
  • Developing and delivering educational materials that incorporate emerging information technology.
  • Partnering with health-care professionals and academic staff during rural clinical placements to develop high quality learning opportunities for undergraduate physiotherapy students. 
  • Providing best practice clinical and educational support to clinical supervisors.
  • Assisting in identifying a range of supports that would further enhance rural clinical learning experiences.
  • Actively engage in research that is aimed at contributing to an evidence-base within a rural health agenda. 

This position is primarily located in Toowoomba.


Our Ideal Candidate

Along with a tertiary degree in physiotherapy, you will have a current full registration as a Physiotherapist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

You will also hold at least 3 years clinical experience as a Physiotherapist. To best support our students, you will also bring demonstrated experience in clinical education and a sound knowledge of interprofessional education.

Your high level interpersonal and consultation skills will ensure a true partnership with health-care professionals and academic staff to provide rural clinical placements. Finally, you will have a commitment to research activities, a willingness to participate in rural health research, and bring established relationships to promote the discipline across both the university and broader community levels.

What We Can Offer

There is a part-time position until 31 December 2024, with a possibility of extension subject to funding.

At Academic Level B, full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $99,542.80- $118,206.73, plus super of up to 17%.
