This is an exciting opportunity to join both Flinders University and the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network. We are seeking a leading medical practitioner in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to work 0.5FTE at Flinders University and 0.5FTE at the Flinders Medical Centre, educating to the next generation of medical practitioners and providing high-quality healthcare.

SALHN includes Flinders Medical Centre , Noarlunga Hospital , GP Plus Health Care Centres and Super Clinics , Mental Health Services , Sub-acute services, including Repat Health Precinct , Jamie Larcombe Centre and Aboriginal Family Clinics .

Responsibilities

Flinders University: The Clinical Academic in Obstetrics and Gynaecology will further quality research endeavours, strengthen industry partnerships and deliver innovative teaching to students. As an Academic Teacher the incumbent will provide curriculum planning and topic coordination within the suite of clinical programs in specific the Doctor of Medicine degree; particularly learning strategies, laboratory-based material, examinations, and placement education. Providing an excellent student experience, the Clinical Academic will lead quality assurance and accreditation processes. Research responsibilities include providing high-quality, original, and innovative contributions through activities such as scholarship, quality publication, external grant acquisition, mentoring, supervision of students in Honours and/or Research Higher Degrees and delivering high quality presentations in the College’s focus areas.  Creating a respectful environment centred on education and research, the Clinical Academic will also develop strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders (internally and externally) to further the academic endeavours of the College and the University. Some out-of-hours work and travel (rural, interstate and overseas) may be required.

SALHN: The Clinical Academic in Obstetrics and Gynaecology is required to work as part of a multidisciplinary academic clinical team and is actively involved in teaching medical students and trainee medical officers and where appropriate Nursing and Allied Health. The individual will participate in clinical audit and quality, safety and clinical risk management activities and research and continuous medical education activities. The incumbent will also be required to conduct obstetric clinics, supervise obstetric inpatients, conduct operating theatre sessions and supervise Birthing Assessment Suite and Emergency Department calls.

About You

A successful Clinical Academic will be a distinguished leader in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, with demonstrated evidence of teaching expertise and curriculum development at a tertiary level. You have an established research reputation internationally, in an area related to the College of Medicine and Public Health’s strengths, evidenced by quality publications and grant acquisitions. Communication and interpersonal skills come naturally to you, particularly when it comes to collaborating with staff, students, and industry.

Furthermore, you will demonstrate:

  • Attainment of Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. Appropriate Specialist Qualifications and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration (Obstetrics & Gynaecology); or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award.

  • Completion of a PhD, or equivalent qualification

  • Evidence of delivering innovative teaching methods to students, including e-learning platforms, communication technologies and ways that you inspire excellence amongst colleagues

  • Previous experience supervising honours/research degree students

  • An understanding of the nexus between teaching and learning, research, and scholarship

  • Contributions to a relevant professional domain and the wider community context at the local, national, and international levels.
