Purpose

The School of Nursing and Midwifery (SNM) Clinical Academic Coordinator (CAC) leads the clinical placement activities and contributes to scholarly activities within the school.

The Clinical Academic Coordinator has primary responsibility for the coordination and monitoring of the School of Nursing and Midwifery clinical placement experience for undergraduate students.  

The CAC will work closely with SNM Course Coordinators to ensure optimum quality clinical placement providers are sourced and organised to maintain and strengthen placement opportunities and promote continuity of learning for students.

About the position

A Level B academic with a teaching focussed appointment will work without the need for close supervision and is expected to develop curriculum, coordinate subjects, teach and support students as they learn. In addition, a teaching focussed academic will support the administrative functions of the nursing and/or midwifery disciplines as well as undertake scholarly work relevant to the development of learning and teaching in their designated role, discipline or professional field.

A teaching focussed academic is expected to demonstrate teaching excellence in keeping with the La Trobe Teaching Excellence Principles and maintain a track record of excellence as evidenced by Student Feedback on Teaching (SFT) surveys, peer-feedback on teaching and through other evidence-based measures, where applicable.

Further, a level B teaching focussed academic will co-ordinate and/or lead the activities of other staff, relevant to the Clinical Academic Coordinator role, and as appropriate to learning and teaching in the disciplines.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have;

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • A PhD degree (working towards, or equivalent accreditation or standing) in nursing and/or midwifery recognised by the University/professions as appropriate for the discipline and role.  
  • Current or recent participation in clinical nursing practice and/or clinical teaching environments.
  • Evidence of innovation and initiatives undertaken in the last three years that have improved the student experience in a learning and teaching and/or clinical teaching environment, and the evaluation of effectiveness of these initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport, positively influence and effectively engage with a range of stakeholders in complex problem solving and negotiation.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with and contribute to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in support of curriculum delivery and evaluation. 
  • Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively, collaboratively and productively with staff, students and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Highly organised, solution-focussed, sound capabilities in complex problem solving, demonstrated ability to prioritise competing tasks and make decisions in dynamic work
