About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional leader whose ultimate mission is to ensure the University’s information assets are protected in what is a complex and rapidly changing operating environment.

We are looking for an outstanding cyber security practitioner. Someone who is exceptionally well informed about cyber trends and practices, frameworks and technologies and who is capable of collaborating with senior staff to lead and deliver meaningful change.

To be successful in this role you must have had extensive experience in cyber security within other large and complex organisations and be capable of drawing on that experience to provide strategic advice to the Chief Information Officer and the University’s Enterprise Leadership Team.

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer you will be responsible for leading a team of cyber security specialists and for the overall delivery of a range of cyber security related projects.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic, long-term information security strategy, plan and set of controls and assurance activities to ensure the University’s information assets are protected from known and emerging threats
  • Lead the University’s planning processes with respect to cyber security including the development of the multi-year investment plans
  • Lead the development of up-to-date information security policies, procedures, standards and guidelines, and oversee their approval, dissemination and maintenance
  • Manage budgets of $2.0M comprising a mix of operation and project budgets and cyber tools
  • Manage major security incident response activities including all stakeholder communication until service restoration

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Relevant professional qualifications and significant experience in a senior management role in an ICT related field
  • Extensive experience implementing and managing cyber security services, in a large and complex organisation
  • Detailed knowledge of contemporary cyber security issues, trends and practices, frameworks (eg. NIST) and current and emerging security technology solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to identify relevant cyber security risks and develop and implement cost effective mitigating controls and assurance activities to reduce or eliminate them
  • Significant people management skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation
