The Centre Manager, Centre for Advanced Defence Research (CADR) in Ultrashort, Short Pulsed Lasers (USPL) is governed by an agreement between the Division of Research and Innovation (DRI) and the Defence Science Technology Group (DSTG) established on 1 May 2022 and will be operational until 30 April 2027. The CADR-USPL program is defence oriented and provides a framework for broader engagement, contract facilitation, as well as a central governance framework for scientific and strategic advice and direction. The appointment of Centre Manager CADR-USPL seeks to intimately link institutions including: The University of Adelaide (UoA) and the DSTG. The Centre Manager will work with the USPL Research Staff and the Senior Business Development Manager (SDBM) Defence, Space & Cyber (DCS) to ensure continued viability of the CADR-USPL through engagement with Defence and Industry for funded research opportunities. The Centre Manager will also work closely with the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) School and Physical Sciences (PS) School in coordinating and advancing activities for research, educational, and innovation aspects of the Centre.

The Centre Manager will take significant responsibility in implementing the strategic direction of the Centre, under the direction of at the direction of the Steering Committee. The Centre Manager will work with the Scientific Committee to develop a Program of Activities and use their best endeavours to implement the Program of Activities, as agreed by the Steering Committee. The Centre Manager will assist with organizing events and education activities.

The Centre Manager will manage the Centre’s activities in a coordinated way, working collaboratively with all stakeholders managing its research activities and coordinating research effort, whilst ensuring compliance with the UoA obligations under the CADR-USPL Agreement.

To be successful you will need:

  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of high-level executive support functions.
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of high-quality management and advisory services, including the preparation of risk, progress, and financial reports and/or schedules.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management and delivery of programs to a strict deadline.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an autonomous capacity and in a team environment under broad direction.
  • Eligible or willing and able to become eligible to hold a security clearance.
