You will be supporting a  Healthy Body & Mind Program for people with osteoarthritis and thinking difficulties. A Research Assistant provides technical and research assistance to the research project/team. Research Assistants will deliver lifestyle education at the UNSW campus in Randwick to small groups of people (up to 4 in each group) with osteoarthritis and thinking difficulties.This includes providing project organisational support. 

The work will involve 3-4 hours/week (Tues/Fri morning) for ~6 months. 

This role will:

  • Attend research meetings and training sessions.
  • Respond to routine enquiries relating to research.
  • Liaise with stakeholders in the preparation of ethics applications, abstracts, annual and progress reports.
  • Undertake unsupervised research support tasks consistent with established methodologies (may include lab or field work).
  • Perform lifestyle education program delivery, data collection and entry, and analysis.
  • Maintain research databases, records and publication registers.
  • Conduct statistical data reporting.
  • Recruit study participants and conduct survey mail outs.
  • Transcribe interviews/focus groups.
  • Organise fieldwork arrangements.
  • Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.

A person engaged is generally expected to have the following skills and experience:

  • Completion of a degree (Psychology)
  • Prior experience supporting a research project
  • Experience supporting people with health conditions
  • Strong level of computer literacy with strong skills in the use of Microsoft Office software and other applications or systems/databases
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
