  • Casual appointment – 45 hours per fortnight for 12 months
  • Hourly rate: Level 3 $30.44 plus 10.5% superannuation and casual loading

About the team

The Raine Study is one of the largest successful prospective cohorts of pregnancy, childhood, adolescence, and adulthood to be carried out anywhere in the world. It is a rich resource for researchers, with prospective longitudinal data and biological samples that have been collected at multiple time-points over the last 33 years. There are established collaborative research networks across a wide variety of disciplines.

The Raine Study is commencing the next Follow-up with its Generations 1 and Generation 2 cohort participants. The Research Assistant (Laboratory) will be part of a highly experienced and respected data collection team, they will be responsible for the efficient and effective sorting, processing, and accessioning of pathology specimens, and data entry, for the Generations Follow-up.

About the opportunity

As the appointee you will under general direction, be performing routine daily tasks in the laboratory and interacting with the research team, researchers, and other health professionals. Your duties will include sorting, processing, and accessioning pathology specimens, and data entry. Other tasks may include operating laboratory equipment, non-invasive test setup, equipment maintenance and ordering supplies.

About you 

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Year 12 or equivalent competency
  • Degree in Biological Sciences or a related discipline is desirable
  • Experience in biological sample processing and storage
  • Demonstrated excellent attention to detail and quality
  • Highly developed organisational skills with the demonstrated ability to set priorities and to meet deadlines
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative, high performing team, with minimal supervision, show initiative and problem solve
  • Proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet and email

Please note the below requirements for this position:

  • A current National Police Clearance (NPC)
  • Current “C” class driver’s licence
  • Regular weekend work
