Casual Register

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences is currently seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified individuals who would be available to undertake casual Placement Educator (Facilitation) opportunities to support Nursing undergraduate and postgraduate student learning during their professional placement experiences across a range of health care settings.


Casual Placement Educator (Facilitation) staff will report to the Topic Coordinators and be responsible for:

  • establishing and maintaining professional relationships with venues and the clinical teams to support student learning through aspects such as (but not limited to) advocating for appropriate learning experiences, allocation of students to shifts, clarifying students scope of practice, allocation of preceptors, navigating issues or concerns, seeking feedback on student progress

  • regular and timely communication with Topic Coordinators and students in relation to student progress and identified concerns

  • attending pre-clinical meetings for allocated students

  • meeting with each student for 2.5 hours each week (30 minutes/day) to discuss progress and facilitate learning through reflection on experiences, supporting links between theory and practice to foster meaning making

  • understanding students’ scope of practice, expected learning outcomes of the topic and how this applies to student practice as reflected in the Placement Assessment Record

  • providing ongoing constructive feedback to students to optimise their learning outcomes

  • recording each student meeting, identifying progress, content of discussion and plan for development

  • developing Professional Learning Plans collaboratively with students and Topic Coordinators that supports student learning

  • mentoring professional standards, attitudes and attributes of the Registered Nurse

  • completing assessment requirements for individual students (Placement Assessment Records, Viva voce, attendance records etc)



SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Holds an Australian Bachelor of Nursing Degree or higher qualification.

  • Currently registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • Current or eligible to register for a Working with Children Check from the Department of Human Services – SA Government (or equivalent State or Territory requirement).

  • A minimum of three years full-time clinical experience.

  • Experience of teaching and learning in your role as a Registered Nurse.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated problem solving, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in using technology such as Microsoft Office programs and interactive online technology.

  • A willingness to travel between clinical venues.

  • Evidence of employment in a clinical education role (desirable)

  • Holding a Graduate Diploma, Masters or PhD in nursing or related field (desirable).
