About Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) – Cancer
A cancer-free future is a bold vision, but we truly believe it’s possible if we work together. We’ve all known and loved people with cancer. We’ve seen them go through treatments—treatments we want to make better. We’ve dealt with loss—loss we dearly want to avoid. We’ve seen the challenges of readjusting to life after cancer—challenges we want to make easier. At Flinders, we’re looking to create more effective treatments, achieve earlier detection and intervention, and prevent cancer from developing in the first place. We also want to help people who have had cancer to get back on their feet physically, mentally, and financially.
FHMRI Cancer brings together research labs, clinical trials, and treatment in one flagship facility. We forge connections between more than 150 cancer-focused researchers and clinicians, as well as our patients. We have a shared focus on innovation—on finding new and creative solutions that can make an impact on people’s lives. We do it by working collaboratively, drawing on the diverse expertise and experiences of our people.
About the Role
This Fellowship is generously sponsored by Cancer Council SA, Flinders Foundation and Flinders University.
This Research Fellowship is a distinctive opportunity to undertake meaningful research related to those who have survived cancer; particularly in the field of cancer wellness, psycho-oncology, and survivorship. This unique collaboration will focus on evaluating cancer support programs, development of novel support programs and the use of assessment and intervention on patient reported outcomes.
Day-to-day tasks will include coordinating and executing research and project tasks, reviewing literature, producing relevant data, attending seminars and conferences, and reviewing and editing grant applications. The Research Fellow will also be required to supervise honours and post graduate research projects. Establishing and maintaining collaborations for the research is an important aspect to the role, particularly with relevant stakeholders internal and external to the research partners of the Cancer Council SA, Flinders Foundation and Flinders University. Upholding the vision of the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer , this will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for a dedicated researcher to improve the quality of life and decrease distress of cancer survivors.
About You
The ideal candidate for this Fellowship will be someone who can truly embed themselves in the role to achieve positive outcomes. We are seeking someone who can highlight their quality publications, success in gaining competitive grants and excellent relationships with staff and industry. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Completion of a PhD in Behavioural Science or other relevant discipline.
- For Level C positions you will have evidence of a strong research track record (for career stage) in an area aligned with cancer survivorship, including evidence of sustained high-quality publications with first authorship and success with competitive grants.
- An ability to apply behavioural theory and scientific literature relevant to cancer support and prevention.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly in giving presentations, preparing reports, and providing strategic advice to industry partners.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills capable of translating research findings to a range of audiences and in collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders.
- A history of managing multiple evaluation projects, executing data analysis, and delivering to deadlines.
Level B or Level C classification will be determined based on the experience of the candidate. We encourage all interested applicants to get in contact to discuss the position.
