  • Commencement Salary: $104,143 per annum (plus 17% superannuation)


About the Role

The position is responsible for establishing and maintaining professional working relationships with, and acting as the key conduit between, Student and Academic Services (SAS) and the Academic Units to lead and implement SAS strategies and activities to achieve strategic and operational objectives for the Academic Units and SAS.

The position is also responsible for the effective leadership of the SAS Campus Team and functions. It involves the provision of high level expert advice and support in relation to academic and student administration to key stakeholders and the provision of specialised support to the Academic Units for program development and review, admissions, and credit assessment.

The Student and Academic Services (SAS) provides senior leadership in student and academic administration in a distributed service environment. It is responsible for the development and maintenance of policy, information systems and procedural frameworks. The Unit coordinates and provides quality assurance for a number of University functions including student admissions, enrolments, examinations, graduations, student finance and scholarships.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership and direction for a diverse range of core SAS business services relating to academic, student and international administration with a focus on continuous quality improvement and effective use of resources
  • Exemplify the SAS values and positively contribute to SAS culture; championing the values of the Unit and providing effective deployment, performance development and management of staff
  • Partner with Academic Units by providing critical comment, advice and briefings for the Executive Deans, Dean of Programs and General Managers as appropriate, on strategic and operational issues and the application of relevant University policies and procedures relevant to Academic Services
  • Build relationships based on trust and expert advice which enable SAS to have influence on the AU strategic activities
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships across the AUs to ensure AU Academic Services remains compliant with changes to University policies and processes. Through active participation in AU committees and collaboration with key stakeholders, ensure that AU requirements inform academic policy and process development

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Postgraduate qualifications or equivalent skills and knowledge at an appropriate level and a demonstrated commitment to the further development and enhancement of knowledge and skills
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing a collaborative team including fostering an effective service orientated and continuous improvement culture in a complex environment
  • Demonstration of behaviours that align with SAS values
  • High level interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including demonstrated negotiating skills when working with senior staff on complex and sensitive issues, and the capacity to communicate effectively with people at all levels of an organisation
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and monitoring of business and operational plans
