About the Role
As the Business Development Officer, you'll excel in developing industry leads, engaging existing partners from unique start-ups to global tech industry giants, and expanding relationships.

This is an exceptional opportunity to launch or expand your career in business development while contributing to the growth of the APR.Intern program. You'll liaise with stakeholders across industry, government and academia, deepening your understanding of research impact through sector collaboration.

Australian Postgraduate Research Intern (APR.Intern) is Australia’s only national PhD and Masters by Research internship program spanning all sectors and disciplines.

APR.Intern connects postgraduate research students with industry through short-term placements, empowering students to thrive in a practical research environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Grow the APR.Intern internship pipeline
  • Attend or present at events in person and online to promote the benefits of the program
  • Work closely with universities on key strategic activities to identify academics and students for industry opportunities
  • Collaborate with the APR.Intern team to oversee internship collaborations from start to finish, including contract management, administration, milestone tracking, and reporting. Ensure accurate documentation in Salesforce CRM.

Who We Are Looking For
You will bring your business development and customer service expertise coupled with demonstrated organisational skills and ability to work independently in a team environment.

You will also have:

  • A relevant tertiary degree and extensive relevant work experience
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with ability to communicate clearly and accurately to a variety of audiences using multiple channels
  • Demonstrated ability to source and convert new business opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability in critical thinking, influencing, and negotiation to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.

APR.Intern is a division of the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI), based in the Faculty of Science at the University of Melbourne. AMSI is an unincorporated joint venture of 12 Australian universities, with the University of Melbourne being the lead agent (see www.amsi.org.au ).

APR.Intern is a national, all-sector, all-discipline internship program that connects PhD and Masters by Research students and research capabilities to industry through short-term research internships. As a not-for-profit program, APR.Intern is open to all domestic and international PhD and Masters by Research students from any discipline and all industry sectors.

The APR.Intern team is small, impactful, and nimble. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the bigger picture for APR.Intern and the institute more broadly. APR.Intern and the Institute offer a flexible and autonomous working environment.
