The Business and Operations Manager, ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation represents a key position within the ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation.
Working in close partnership with the Director, senior researchers and technical and administrative representatives from domestic and international partner organisations, the Business and Operations Manager, ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation will be
required to provide day-to-day, strategic business and financial management of all Centre research programs and operations.
Generally unguided with some broad direction, this position will have direct responsibility for resourcing, staff management, devising program budgets, contract management, financial management, reporting, general Centre operations and policy development, and support for strategic development, in line with Flinders University policies and procedures.
The Business and Operations Manager, ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation will contribute to the strategic direction of the Centre and administer its research training programs to ensure successful implementation of the Centre and realisation of its impact for the industry and community. The Business and Operations Manager, ARC Industrial
Transformation Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation will also support the development of further industry partnerships in related activities.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Business and Operations Manager, ARC Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation is accountable
for:


Strategic and Operational Planning and Management

  • Providing high-level advice to the Director to enable effective leadership and direction to establish theCentre and support the Centre’s Advisory, Steering and Management Committees, including strategic high-level advice to establish and grow the Centre nationally and internationally.

  • Preparing and monitoring performance against an annual work plan, related to the annual ARC KPIs and overall operational plan, working closely with the Foundation Training Program and theme leaders to outline key objectives, strategies, and timelines.

  • Preparing working papers, recommendations, policies, and procedures related to management of the Centre.

  • In providing advice to the Centre Director on the interpretation and application of ARC and National Research policies, and of relevant State and Federal Government legislation.
     

Provide Centre Operations Lifecycle Support

  • Liaising with the Flinders Research Development & Support team, ensure that all agreements are in place for Centre funding to begin by the commencement date.

  • Liaising with Centre chief investigators and partner organisations to develop project plans for HDR and postdoctoral projects, also establishing systems to monitor the performance and delivery of these projects.

  • Establishing and managing a register of Centre-created intellectual property, publications, media releases, events and presentations.

  • Regularly liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure commitments to the Centre are met in a timely manner and are compliant with the Centre Funding Agreement and funding rules.

  • Monitoring and preparing the Centre Annual Report, KPI reports, and other reporting requirements as required by the Australian Research Council.

  • Providing a high level of strategic leadership for the Centre, including the identification and planning for operational requirements, risk mitigation, staff resourcing, and the delivery of reports and outcomes to meet contracted deliverables in line with frameworks and University policies.
     

Assist with Student and Doctoral Placements

  • Working closely with the Foundation Training Program leaders to develop, implement and support an effective early career mentoring program and organise all student and postdoctoral placements.

  • Prepare and monitor performance related to the annual ARC KPIs for industry placements. 

Key Position Capabilities

  • Postgraduate qualifications and relevant experience, or extensive management experience and proven management expertise; or equivalent combination of experience and/or education and/or training.

  • Demonstrated experience in the management and administration of complex research projects/programs with proven ability to ensure effective completion of tasks within deadlines.

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to foster effective working relationships, especially those between the institutions involved in the Centre

  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including demonstrated ability to effectively analyse information and produce clear, succinct reports and documents.

  • Demonstrated leadership and staff management skills including the ability to encourage a collaborative work environment and an orientation towards achievement of goals.

  • Highly developed problem-solving and analytical skills demonstrated by the ability to establish and implement new policies, procedures and initiatives.

  • Demonstrated substantial budget management skills and experience, including the ability to develop and monitor complex budgets, provide financial models and understand and interpret financial reports.

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and in a team-environment, and to follow through on tasks to completion with minimal supervision.

  • Experience and understanding in managing Intellectual Property and confidential projects is desirable
